Mpuuga Accepts DP Bloc’s Endorsement To Challenge Museveni In 2026
Former leader of opposition, commissioner of parliament and Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has accepted the endorsement of his colleagues of the DP Bloc to stand for presidency in 2026.
“It will be very stupid and reckless if we who want change enter the 2026 elections without the amendments we have fought for in the electoral laws” – says Mpuuga
Mpuuga who is moving a different path from that of his party National Unity Platform while addressing journalists today at parliament in regards to his private member’s bill which he wants to present to parliament with some electoral reforms says he’s ready to challenge Museveni.

According to Mpuuga, he welcomes the endorsement with two hands is ready for the challenge. While announcing Mpuuga’s endorsement for the big job at their offices led by Micheal Mabike, Lubega Mukaku claim that Mpuuga is best fit for the presidency than any other opposition politician currently in Uganda.
“I thank my brothers in the DP Bloc for electing me to hold their flag in the next election. I can handle the responsibilities they are talking about and I cannot apologize for that but I don’t think that is the main issue at the moment”- Says Mpuuga
The DP bloc who some months ago announced cutting ties with NUP and Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine continue to blame him for betrayal saying they brought and supported his 2021 presidential big but he turned against them and does not listen to any advice they give him and only heeds to those from with in his inner circles.
Speaking at parliament Mpuuga says he’s more than ready for the top job. It’s not clear whether Mpuuga will face Museveni as an independent candidate or as party flag bearer. If he’s to carry the party flag, he has many options. There’s Mabike’s Social Democratic Party (SDP), Abed Bwanika’s People’s Development Party (PDP) or even the People Power Front (PPF) which is still under registration at the Electoral Commission.
It should be noted that the DP bloc is a sprinter group from the main Democratic Party led by Minister Norbert Mao. They’ve been jumping on every trending politician when time of general elections comes. They ditched Besigye and supported Amama Mbabazi under The Democratic Alliance (TDA). They also crossed and supported Bobi Wine ahead of the 2021 elections and now they want their own Mpuuga to face Museveni.
For the better part of this year, Mpuuga has not seen eye to eye with his party president Bobi Wine who even suspended him as party Deputy President for Buganda over the controversial Shs500m which he received as a service award. His party says this tantamount to corruption.
Mpuuga and four other commissioners also survived a would be censure motion which a court in Kampala extinguished with a ruling that the service award was legal.
