Red Cross Chief Urges Kisoro Members to Attract More Volunteers
The Chairperson of the Uganda Red Cross Society, Rose Kabagenyi, who is also a candidate for Member of Parliament in the upcoming Kisoro District by-elections, has urged members and volunteers in the district to be exemplary in their communities to attract more people to join the organization.
Kabagenyi delivered this message during the Uganda Red Cross Society Kisoro branch’s annual general meeting held on September 28, 2024, at the Kisoro district headquarters. She called on youth, students, and other non-governmental organizations to join the Red Cross Kisoro branch to improve membership.
Kabagenyi expressed concern about Kisoro receiving limited support from the headquarters compared to other districts due to low membership, despite experiencing high rates of disasters.
The acting branch manager for Kisoro district, Manishimwe Bernard, called on Red Cross members and volunteers to work hard as humanitarians to achieve the mission, vision, and objectives of the Uganda Red Cross Society. He also emphasized the need to relocate Chibumba primary school, which was recently affected by flooding, to a safer location to mitigate future consequences.
The Medical Superintendent of Kisoro Hospital, Emmanuel Bahane, who is also the vice chairperson of the Uganda Red Cross Society Kisoro branch, advocated for cooperation and unity between the hospital and the Red Cross Society in blood donation and other humanitarian work.
