Ssemakadde's Governing Council List Emerges As They Plot To Disrupt Uganda's Corrupt Law System

A day after his election as the new President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), Isaac Ssemakadde has already sparked discussions within the legal community.

His election is seen as a victory for those advocating for transparency and reform within the Society.

Alongside Ssemakadde, the newly elected council includes Vice President Asiimwe Anthony, Treasurer Isiko Arthur, Secretary Munaabi Philip and regional representatives Muhumuza Samuel (Western), Eddie Nangulu (Eastern), Egalu Emmanuel Omiat (Northern) and Geofrey Turyamusiima (Central).

Ssemakadde's bold and unconventional leadership style has already drawn praise and stirred excitement.

Many, including his supporters like David Mushanga, commend him for challenging the status quo and calling out what he perceives as the "corporate pretense" within the legal profession.

Mushanga highlighted the symbolic shedding of the "white shirts" a metaphor for rejecting corporate norms and embracing a more radical approach to change.

In his speech, Ssemakadde also addressed the need for female lawyers to step up and confront systemic issues, urging them to break free from traditional constraints.

His election has generated hope among many in the legal field that the Uganda Law Society will now take a bolder stance on issues like gender equality and legal reform.

The ULS, under Ssemakadde's leadership, promises to usher in a new era of accountability and activism, as the newly elected council embarks on what many see as a fresh chapter for the Society.
