Gen Muhoozi Appoints NUP’s Lwanga to Head Greater Mukono

The Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Muhoozi Kainerugaba has appointed Njeru Municipality Member of Parliament, Jimmy Lwanga as coordinator for Greater Mukono.

PLU Secretary General, David Kabanda announced in a statement on Monday.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has appointed the following individuals to serve in different capacities in Greater Mukono,” said Kabanda.

First on the list is Jimmy Lwanga as Coordinator.

Lwanga was elected to Parliament in the last election on the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.

He joined the MK movement in August last year.

He was, however, not the first NUP MP to dump his party for the MK movement.

Bukoto South lawmaker, Twaha Kagabo also defected from the NUP to join Muhoozi’s movement.

The defection of NUP members as high profile as Members of Parliament led to deep concern about the extent to which the opposition party had been infiltrated by the MK Movement.

Muhoozi recently said PLU members were free to seek election in the 2026 elections.

“On PLU members who want to contest for parliament, nothing is stopping you from doing that,” he said, adding, “PLU is a civic organisation – not a political party. You are absolutely free to contest. For now I advise you to subscribe to NRM. That’s the political party that is most closely aligned to our values.”

Meanwhile, other leaders that Muhoozi appointed for Greater Mukono include; Adrian Waswa Ddungu as Assistant Coordinator, Augustine Bankunda – Publicity Secretary, and Abdullah Kasozi as Committee Secretary.

Others include; Daisy Sarah Sonko – Women Council Representative, Malik Kiberu – Youth Council Representative, Tadeo Kintu – PWDs Council Representative, and David Mayanja Tuseregete – Secretary Elderly Council.

Kabanda said PLU leadership is confident of the “dedication and commitment” of the appointed individuals to PLU’s values of Patriotism and combating corruption and wastage of public resources.

“We envisage this team significantly contributing to our efforts in engaging and mobilizing the citizenry in greater Mukono towards transformation and socio-Economic Development,” he said.
