Minister Betty Amongi Launches 107 Million Shilling Soft Loan for Lira City’s Market Vendors

Lira, Uganda – Three hundred eighty-seven small-scale businesswomen from Lira City have benefited from a soft loan of 107 million shillings, disbursed by Hon. Betty Amongi Akena on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Senior Quarters, Lira City East Division.
Jenifer Opio, a member of Hon. Betty Amongi’s team, addressed the 387 women gathered to receive the money, particularly those from Lira City West Division. She encouraged them to support Hon. Amongi Akena in the 2026 elections, citing her good leadership. “Support Hon. Betty Amongi in the 2026 election,” Opio urged.
Sam O, an NRM cardholder, expressed his commitment to supporting UPC’s Betty Amongi.
Imat Dina Bua, Chairperson of the Women’s Council in Lira City, who presided over the event on behalf of Minister Betty Amongi, stated that 387 women were benefiting from a total of 107 million shillings. She emphasized that the loan was not linked to any political affiliation. “Amongi is coming home to Lira City, and she is a true leader. For five consecutive terms, she has consistently won elections,” she said.
Denis Odong Odul, a Councilor representing Lira City East “B” Division, spoke on the importance of women in driving the country’s development. He praised Minister Amongi’s support for women, calling it the best form of assistance.
Ken Allan Owani, a member of the technical team supporting Hon. Betty Amongi, urged the women who received the loan to use the funds wisely to grow their businesses.
Sofia Atine, a beneficiary from Ngetta Ginery, who received the loan at 5% interest per annum, thanked Minister Amongi for her continued support for women in Lira City, encouraging her to keep empowering women financially to boost their businesses.
Apiki Evaline, a 38-year-old woman from Ongura in Lira City East Division, also received the loan and expressed her gratitude to Minister Amongi for considering grassroots women in her initiative.
Alyek Erimia, former LC1 Chairperson in Lira City West and now a market vendor, commended Minister Amongi for the 300,000 shillings given to each beneficiary. He pledged his continued support for Hon. Amongi until the 2026 election, promising to vote for her.
