Uganda Launches Third Phase of Digital Vehicle Registration Plates at Malaba and Mutukula Borders

Today, the Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that the third phase of Digital Registration Number Plates in Uganda has begun. This new system aims to simplify the registration process for vehicles entering the country for the first time.

Vehicle registration will take place at two main locations:

- Malaba Border Entry Point

- Mutukula Border Entry Point

The price for a digital registration plate is set at UGX 714,300.

There are two main groups for applying for a digital registration plate:

Group One: Direct Tax Clearance

Group One includes individuals who pay their taxes at the ports of Mombasa or Dar es Salaam (referred to as DIRECT IM4). Those in this group can enter Uganda with their vehicle already fitted with a digital registration plate and must have their logbook ready.

After clearing their taxes, they are advised to log onto the booking system at portal@itms_ug.com to complete their registration.

Group Two: Bonded Warehouses

The second group consists of those who bring vehicles into bonded warehouses and then pay their taxes (known as FROM IM7 REGIME). After clearing taxes and completing all necessary checks on the URA Uganda portal, including those required by the Ministry of Works and Transport, individuals in this group can proceed to book their digital registration plates.

They should visit portal@itms-ug.com for booking. Once they receive confirmation, they can choose where and when they want the registration plate fitted, with the service coming directly to them.

For assistance with booking a registration plate, it is recommended to contact Joint Stock Company Global Security or Virtuous Global Security Company, both appointed by the government for this service. The contact details provided are:

- Phone: 074 3345084

- Email: portal@itms-ug.com

For any inquiries regarding motor vehicle registration, it is advised to reach out to the Ministry of Works and Transport at:

- Phone: 0200420000

- Email: inquiries@mvr.go.ug

This new phase in vehicle registration is intended to enhance efficiency and improve service for all vehicle owners in Uganda.
