Attendee Leaks Secrets of State House Meeting Which Led to NRM Rejecting Kawempe Results

A leaked account from an attendee of last Friday’s State House meeting has revealed the intense internal debate that led the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to reject the Kawempe North by-election results.

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, chaired by President Museveni, reportedly saw a sharp divide among top party officials.

One faction argued that the election was tainted with violence, vote rigging, and impunity, making the results unacceptable.

This group insisted that NRM’s loss to National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Elias Nalukoola was a consequence of widespread electoral malpractice.

The opposing side urged the party to accept defeat and focus on rebuilding its influence in the opposition stronghold.

They warned that rejecting the results could further alienate voters and damage the party’s credibility.

According to sources who attended but requested anonymity, the President leaned toward the faction pushing for rejection.

He cited reports of ballot stuffing, intimidation, and interference at polling stations like Kazo-Angola and Mbogo Mosque zone.

The CEC ultimately resolved to challenge the results, calling for an investigation into the alleged irregularities a decision that has sparked fresh political tensions.
