Girls Lead in PLE Exams; Uneb Warns Against Fraud

Today, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Kataha Museveni, will release the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results for the 749,347 pupils who took the exams last year. The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) provided this information after briefing Ms. Kataha about the pupils’ performance. The release will take place at State House Nakasero.

Chairperson of the National Private Education Institutions Association (NPEIA), Mr. Hasadu Kirabira, expressed anticipation for the results, believing that schools under their association have consistently provided quality education over time. He noted potential competition among schools in Wakiso, Kampala, and Mukono, with expectations of better performance in central and urban areas due to various factors.

Girls, constituting 52% of candidates, outperformed boys in English, while boys excelled in Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies during the previous year’s exams.

Mr. Dan Odongo, Uneb’s executive secretary, warned against fraudsters claiming access to the Uneb grading system. There have been reports of impostors deceiving school heads and directors, offering to improve grades or remove schools suspected of malpractice. Uneb cautioned examination center heads, school directors, and the public to avoid engagement with such fraudsters.
