Joint security forces have recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition after a suspected notorious warrior voluntarily surrendered in Kaabong District, with police attributing the development to sustained security operations and community engagement.
KAABONG — Joint security forces have recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition after a suspected notorious warrior voluntarily surrendered under pressure from ongoing security operations in Kaabong District.
According to security officials, the surrender occurred on July 13, 2026, at about 6pm when Lokutae Logwee Lomerikori, a resident of Lorengechora Village, Lotim Parish, Lotim Sub-county, handed over an SMG rifle, serial number 04892 BC, loaded with two rounds of ammunition.
The firearm was surrendered to Detective Corporal Opale Isaac and the Kaabong District Internal Security Officer (GISO), Paul Lokiru, along the Kathile–Lotim Road.
Karamoja Regional Police spokesperson Mike Longole said the suspect had been linked to insecurity in the area.
"The suspect has been a notorious warrior terrorising Morungole and Kathile sub-counties. His surrender demonstrates the impact of sustained security operations and continued community engagement," Longole said.
He said the recovered firearm and ammunition are now in the custody of the joint security forces for documentation and further management.
Longole urged individuals still in possession of illegal firearms to take advantage of the Presidential Amnesty and surrender their weapons voluntarily.
"We continue to appeal to all those still holding illegal guns to surrender them peacefully under the Presidential Amnesty. This will contribute to lasting peace and security in Karamoja," he said.
Security agencies said efforts to recover illegal firearms from civilians remain ongoing as part of wider disarmament operations aimed at consolidating peace and improving security across the Karamoja sub-region.
