Emmerson Mnangagwa during a courtesy call at the Munhumutapa Building in Harare ahead of the launch of Zimbabwe's African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Review Report and National Programme of Action.

HARARE, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hosted Uganda’s Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, who is in Harare representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the launch of Zimbabwe’s African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National Programme of Action.

Vice President Alupo, who arrived in Harare on Wednesday, paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at the Munhumutapa Building shortly after being received at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Dr. Constantino Chiwenga.

President Mnangagwa said the meeting reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations and shared Pan-African ideals between Uganda and Zimbabwe.

“During our discussions, we reaffirmed the deep-rooted bilateral relations and shared Pan-African values between Zimbabwe and Uganda. Her presence is a testament to our continent’s collective commitment to self-assessment and African solutions to African challenges,” Mnangagwa said.

Vice President Alupo is representing President Museveni in his capacity as the current Chairperson of the African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government.

On Thursday, Alupo will join President Mnangagwa at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden for the official launch of Zimbabwe’s African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Review Report and National Programme of Action.

President Mnangagwa described the launch as a landmark moment in Zimbabwe’s governance journey, saying it reflects the country’s policy innovations and socio-economic reforms under the Second Republic.

The APRM is a voluntary governance assessment mechanism established by the African Union to promote democracy, political governance, economic management, corporate governance and socio-economic development through peer learning and mutual accountability among African states.
