I’m More Fearless Than Ever — Muwanga Kivumbi Vows Fresh Fight After Dramatic Re-Arrest”

Former Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has been re-arrested by security operatives just hours after the International Crimes Division of the High Court granted him bail, sparking fresh controversy and public debate.According to his lawyer, Sam Muyizzi, Kivumbi was intercepted in Mpigi District on Friday while travelling in a vehicle before being taken away by individuals believed to be security personnel.

A video circulating online reportedly shows Traffic Police officers stopping a white Toyota Land Cruiser, after which plainclothes operatives moved in and took Kivumbi away. The incident has raised questions over why he was detained again shortly after being released by court.Kivumbi had been granted bail of Shs10 million cash, while his 16 co-accused were each granted Shs1 million.

They were also ordered to report regularly to authorities and remain in Uganda as their case continues. The former MP and his co-accused are facing terrorism-related charges linked to alleged incidents in Kibibi Sub-county, Butambala District, following the January 2026 elections. They have denied the accusations, describing the charges as politically motivated.

Following his re-arrest, Kivumbi’s supporters say the move has strengthened his determination to continue challenging what he views as unfair treatment. They claim he is now more prepared than ever to speak out against the government.Security agencies have not yet issued an official explanation about the arrest, leaving questions over the circumstances surrounding his detention and the next steps in the case.
