JB Omara, ANT Coordinator in Oyam, Urges Gov’t for Alternative Footpath Across Karuma Bridge
J.B. Omara, the Acting Coordinator for the Alliance for National Transformation Political Party (ANT) in Oyam district, has urged the government to establish an alternative footpath across Karuma Bridge.
He said this would facilitate easier access and alleviate the challenges faced by passengers traveling to Kampala from Northern Uganda.
In his proposal, Omara suggested that vehicles could have designated terminals where passengers could transfer to other vehicles coming from Lira, Kitgum, or West Nile, stopping at the bridge. He emphasized that individuals traveling without heavy luggage could use the footpath to cross the bridge and then transfer to another terminal.
Additionally, Omara called on the government of Uganda to address the rising concerns regarding the fees and migration payments imposed on vehicles from Northern Uganda heading to Kampala through the national game park currently.
He warned that prolonged closure of Karuma Bridge could adversely affect the economic stability and financial well-being of Northern Uganda.
JB Omara, a well-known figure in Oyam South County, Oyam district in the Lango sub-region, is a respected businessman with innovative ideas. He shared these insights during an exclusive media interview in Oyam district on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, Northern Uganda MPs, led by Olanya Gilbert, are advocating for the removal of park charges reportedly imposed on vehicles traveling through the national game park.
