"Muzungu Boda Wasn't Deported, He Was Removed' - Government Clarifies
Mzungu Boda, a New Zealand national who became a popular figure on social media, especially TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), was recently in the news after being asked to leave Uganda.
His real name is Raid Samuel James Armin, and he was known for his online presence and activities in Uganda, which made him a viral sensation.
However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Uganda clarified that Mzungu Boda was not deported, as many initially thought, but was instead "removed" from the country.
According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Simon Mundeyi, Mzungu Boda's departure was a result of his failure to comply with the country's immigration rules.
He had been working in Uganda without the necessary work permits. His activities included creating content online, running an illegal non-governmental organization (NGO), and even self-appointing himself to address local issues, like highlighting potholes in Kampala's roads.
These activities, while popular with his followers, were not in line with Ugandan law for foreigners working in the country.
Mundeyi explained that when a foreigner is found working without the right permits, the government arranges for their removal.
This does not mean deportation; rather, it is an organized departure from the country.
"If you acquire the necessary papers that allow you to work, then we allow you to come back into the country," Mundeyi stated.
This means that Mzungu Boda is free to return to Uganda once he has the correct documentation.
After being removed from Uganda, Mzungu Boda continued to express his thoughts on the matter. He complained about the situation but made it clear that he would not give up on his mission.
He promised his followers that he would return to Uganda in the future, continuing with the gigs and content creation that made him famous in the country.
