SFC Distances Itself From Alleged "Soldier" Arrested at NUP Headquarters
The Special Forces Command (SFC) has denied any connection with a man arrested at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kampala, who claimed to be one of their soldiers. The man, identified as Sulaiman Watuke, was apprehended on Sunday at the NUP offices, leading to widespread claims that he was an SFC member.
In a statement, SFC spokesperson Major Jimmy Omara clarified that Watuke was not part of their unit. The army confirmed that his name did not appear in their records, nor did it show up in the broader UPDF database. The identification card found on Watuke, which allegedly bore the SFC name, was exposed as a forgery. It lacked the security features present in genuine SFC IDs.
The SFC emphasised that an investigation is ongoing, with police now involved in the case of impersonation. While the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has not been contacted yet, initial reports suggest Watuke is an imposter attempting to deceive the public.
Omara urged the public to remain cautious and report any similar fraudulent activities. He praised those who remained vigilant and alerted authorities to the situation. The SFC also warned that impersonating military personnel is a criminal offence and could result in legal consequences.
The Special Forces Command made it clear that Watuke's actions were not representative of the SFC and assured the public that the matter would be fully investigated to ensure accountability.
