Kiryowa Kiwanuka Faces Parliament Fury as Acholi Elders Unmask Surprising Compensation Betrayal

Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Uganda's Attorney General, faced intense criticism from Members of Parliament as Acholi elders revealed a shocking betrayal in the cattle compensation process. The controversy erupted during a recent parliamentary session, where MPs from the Acholi sub-region accused Kiwanuka of deliberately delaying payments to their constituents.

According to reports by ChimpReports, Hon. Gilbert Olanya, leading a group of Acholi MPs, disclosed that a whistleblower from the Attorney General's office had provided damning information. The whistleblower claimed that Kiwanuka had approved compensation payments for the Lango and Teso sub-regions while inexplicably excluding the Acholi region.

Olanya expressed his frustration during a press conference at the Northern Uganda Media Club in Gulu. He emphasised that the Acholi people were the first to take legal action against the government over cattle compensation.

The MP revealed that the Acholi sub-region was due to receive 26 billion Ugandan shillings, matching the amounts allocated to Lango and Teso. This revelation sparked outrage among the Acholi representatives.

Hon. Betty Aol Ocan, the Gulu City Woman MP, pointed out that the issue of cattle compensation had been a long-standing concern since the 8th Parliament. She demanded clarity from the government on their intentions regarding compensation for the Acholi people.

Counsel James Onen, accompanying the MPs, expressed disappointment at the government's apparent reluctance to address the compensation issues for the Acholi community. He announced their intention to pursue legal action against the Secretary to the Treasury through a Compelling Order.

When contacted for comment, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka deflected responsibility, stating that he doesn't handle payment issues. He referred inquiries to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.
