Police’s Chief Crime Intelligence Director Brig. Gen. Christopher Ddamulira Sserunjogi has deployed more than 30 specialized commandos to lead the operation to arrest fugitive Tabula Luggya Bbosa who allegedly masterminded the plan to assassinate Eng. Daniel Bbosa Lwomwa the fallen head of Endiga (Sheep) clan two weeks back.
Highly placed sources at the Crime Intelligence division of police have revealed to the mighty Grapevine that commandos have sealed off Bumagi landing site and Buggala landing site at Kalangala island where they suspect Tabula is hiding.
Sources claim that Tabula fleed from his home on Kulumba hill Mpigi district the day Bbosa was assassinated and first took cover in one of the homes of his relatives in Katosi Mukono district before proceeding to Kalangala Island after learning that security had intensified the operation to arrest him.
In Kalangala, the fugitive first went to his maternal aunt who is a witch doctor to help him frustrate the ongoing investigation against him.
“The information we have gathered shows that he trusts that woman who is a witch doctor so much because he one time told friends that she was the one who helped him to win the case in Buganda cultural Court (Kkooti yakisekwa) against Bbosa. Right now he is very desperate and we are praying so much that he does not commit suicide to survive prosecution,” a senior operative in Crime Intelligence told theGrapevine.
He added that they have further landed on intelligence information that two meetings that planned the assassination of Bbosa where held at the witch doctor’s home and she even first gave blessings to Derrick Noah Luggya who assassinate the deceased and Emmanuel Sserunkuma who was driving the assassin on a motorcycle but was killed by the mob at Bulange in an incident where Luggya survived with serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago hospital.
Sources disclosed that detectives from Maj. Dr. Tom Magambo’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) have recorded Luggya’s statement in which he denied the charges against him.
Security sources allege that they are looking into new evidence that Tabula is the one who financed the assassination and that he still has a huge amounts of money which he is using to hire boats to transport him by water from one island to another.
Sources added that for the last three days, Tabula’s phone has been off but Brig Gen Ddamulira’s men have received high level phone tracking devices from the UPDF’s Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) which can trace a phone even if the owner has switched it off.
Sources added that last Sunday, Tabula sent his men to Mbale village in Mpigi district where Bbosa was buried to collect soil from his grave to be used in rituals to frustrate the investigations.
Operatives further established that they are following information that Tabula sanctioned the assassination of Bbosa partly as an act of revenge.
He accusses the late’s his father of participating in the assassination of his father who was also fighting for Endiga clan leadership when he (Tabula) was still young.
One of Tabula’s relatives told theGrapevine that he survived by a whisker when Tabula tried to kill him because he refused to go to Kisekwa court to testify against Bbosa.
He later started character assassinating him among his relatives and friends that he is very corrupt, betrayed his great great grandparents by accepting Bbosa’s money.
Operatives suspect that Tabula is hiding in Buggala forests and also suspect that he might be having plans to leave the country to go and hide in Tanzania.
Brig. Gen. Ddamulira’s operatives are also hunting for other suspects including officials in Kisekwa court who are on the run for fear of being arrested because they frequently communicated with Tabula.
“We have established that Tabula was sending money to staff in Kisekwa court to frequently brief him on the appeal Bbosa filed before Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, the Supreme court on all culture Buganda matters,” a source said.
In 2022, Kisekwa court declared that Bbosa occupied Endiga clan head office illegally.
He appealed to Kabaka Mutebi and former Buganda Kingdom Culture and security minister Owekitiibwa David Kiwalabye Male noted that Bbosa was still the Endiga clan head until Kabaka made a pronouncement over the appeal which he had not made by the time of Bbosa’s death.
Tabula’s group protested the appeal and enthroned him as the new Endiga clan head. Since then, the two have been at loggerheads.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed that they have arrested seven suspects who include; Milly Naluwenda, a clerk to Kisekwa court and a close friend to Tabula and Luggya.
He added that detectives have forwarded the investigation files to Justice Frances Jane Abodo, the Director Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice on the way forward
