NRM MP Distances Himself From General Muhoozi, Claims He Can't Associate with Persons of His Caliber
RM MP Hon. Barnabas Tinkasimire has publicly distanced himself from General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, stating that he cannot associate himself with a person whose intellect is questionable.
Barnabas Tinkasimire remarks have sparked fresh debate within Uganda’s political landscape, especially given Gen. Muhoozi’s rising influence and rumored presidential ambitions.
Barnabas Tinkasimire, known for his outspoken nature, did not hold back in his criticism.
“For me, in the public’s eyes, Muhoozi’s name is tainted. I don’t relate to a person whose intellect is questionable,†Hon. Barnabas Tinkasimire stated.
Barnabas Tinkasimire’s remarks highlight growing divisions within the ruling NRM party. While some members have embraced Gen. Muhoozi’s rise as a potential successor to President Museveni, others remain skeptical about his leadership capabilities.
Hon. Barnabas Tinkasimire's statement suggests he falls in the latter category, casting doubt on Gen. Muhoozi’s ability to lead Uganda.
His comments also reflect broader concerns about Gen. Muhoozi’s controversial past, including his social media outbursts and polarizing statements.
Opponents argue that Gen. Muhoozi lacks the political experience and intellectual depth required to govern a nation, an argument Tinkasimire appears to support.
By openly rejecting Gen. Muhoozi, Tinkasimire positions himself as one of the few NRM figures willing to challenge the status quo.

His remarks could encourage other ruling party members who quietly share his views to speak out. However, given President Museveni’s firm grip on power, his statements might also invite political backlash.
