Hudu Hussein Declared NRM Flag Bearer for Mbale City Northern Division Following Appeal

Former Kampala Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Hudu Hussein has been declared the official NRM flag bearer for the Mbale City Northern Division parliamentary seat after successfully challenging the outcome of the party primaries.
Hudu had initially lost the NRM primaries to Umar Nangoli by a margin of 591 votes. However, dissatisfied with the results, he petitioned the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal, citing irregularities in the tallying process.
Following a review, the Tribunal found merit in his petition, noting that the earlier results were inaccurate. Upon reassessment, Hudu Hussein was found to have actually won the race with a margin of 336 votes, thereby overturning Nangoli’s victory.
In its ruling dated 22nd August 2025, the Tribunal ordered that:
1. The petition be allowed.
2. The earlier declaration of Umar Nangoli as winner be set aside.
3. Hudu Hussein be declared the duly elected NRM flag bearer for Mbale City Northern Division.
The ruling was signed by tribunal members Ampaire Tumwebaze and Hillary Kabiswa, with Diana Kasabiiti as Panel Head, and John Musiime, Chairperson of the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal.
The decision now positions Hudu Hussein as the NRM’s official candidate for the Mbale City Northern Division seat in the forthcoming 2026 elections.
This development has stirred political excitement in Mbale, with analysts predicting a heated contest as Hudu prepares to face off with opponents from other political parties
