The government has committed to covering the medical bills of journalist Ibrahim Miracle, who was brutally beaten by security forces while covering the Kawempe North by-elections.
David Bahati, Minister of State for Industries, updated Parliament on Miracle’s condition, confirming that his eye has been saved following medical intervention.
“I visited the journalist called Miracle, who works with Top TV… The good thing is, his eye was saved, according to the doctor. He is out of danger and was discharged yesterday,” Bahati told Parliament.
In addition to covering his medical expenses, the government has pledged to compensate Miracle for his damaged camera, in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Bahati also extended the government’s sympathies to Miracle and his family. “We continue to pray for him,” he said.
This development comes as a relief to press freedom advocates, highlighting the need to ensure journalists can work without fear of violence or intimidation.
