Mugisha Muntu: M7 Knows What Happened in Kawempe But is Engaging Ugandans in Psychological Games

Opposition leader Mugisha Muntu has dismissed President Yoweri Museveni’s call for a probe into the violence and alleged rigging in the Kawempe North by-election, accusing him of engaging in psychological warfare.
Speaking in response to Museveni’s directive, Muntu claimed the president is fully aware of what transpired during the election but is using his statement as a strategic move to manipulate public perception.
"President Museveni knows the truth about what happened in Kawempe North, but given how he operates, as part of a wider scheme, he is engaging in psychological warfare, playing on the minds of Ugandans," Muntu stated.
Museveni’s remarks came after the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) suffered defeat in the highly contested by-election.
The party has since vowed to challenge the results in court, citing electoral malpractices.
However, opposition figures, including Muntu, argue that Museveni’s approach is a calculated tactic to divert attention from the government’s own role in election-related violence.
The by-election was marred by reports of intimidation, voter suppression, and attacks on journalists, raising concerns about the fairness of Uganda’s electoral process.
Critics argue that Museveni’s call for a probe is merely a political maneuver rather than a genuine effort to address electoral injustices.
Muntu’s statement adds to the growing skepticism surrounding the government’s response, with many questioning whether the promised investigations will lead to real accountability or serve as another means to consolidate power.
