Musician King Saha Roughed Up & Beaten in Ibanda as Revellers Reject His Political Performance

Renowned Ugandan musician King Saha found himself in a dangerous situation on Saturday night after an enraged crowd in Ibanda district turned against him for incorporating politics into his musical performance. The incident occurred at Kanuzire Food Hub during the grand opening ceremony, where he had been booked as the headline act.
According to eyewitness accounts, King Saha initially received a warm welcome from the audience when he took to the stage. His performance started smoothly, with fans enjoying his popular hits.
However, the atmosphere shifted dramatically when he began making political remarks and showing open support for the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader, Bobi Wine.
Sources at the scene say Saha interrupted his performance to address the crowd about what he termed as "the need for change," urging them to support NUP.
His message did not sit well with the revellers, as Ibanda is known to be a stronghold of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Yoweri Museveni.
As tensions escalated, angry members of the audience began heckling him, shouting pro-NRM slogans and demanding that he stick to entertainment rather than politics.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control as some revellers stormed the stage, physically attacking the singer and roughing up his crew members.
A witness described the scene as chaotic, with drinks and chairs being hurled toward the stage.
“People started shouting ‘Tugataaze!’ (loosely meaning ‘We don’t want confusion!’) and demanding that he stop his political talk. Within moments, the situation became violent,” the eyewitness recounted.
Police were swiftly called to intervene before the altercation could escalate further. Officers managed to escort King Saha and his team out of the venue, shielding them from the irate crowd.
Following the incident, security authorities condemned the violence but also urged artists to remain neutral when performing in politically sensitive areas.
"Musicians must understand the dynamics of different regions. When you are hired to entertain, stick to that," a local security officer commented.
King Saha has not yet publicly spoken about the incident, but sources close to his team suggest that he was left shaken by the ordeal
