"NRM Are Too Embarrassed to Admit that They Do not Have Supporters" NRM Leader, Ofwono Turn on M7

Government spokesperson and NRM leader Ofwono Opondo has cast doubt on the ruling party’s actual support, stating that many leaders are too embarrassed to admit the reality on the ground.
Speaking about voter turnout, Opondo questioned why only 8,000 people voted out of 50,000 registered voters, despite elections being treated as high-stakes affairs.
He suggested that the NRM leadership is aware of its dwindling support but is unwilling to acknowledge it.
"That is the truth. NRM leaders are not willing; they know the truth but are embarrassed to admit it. I want to believe that the NRM knows the truth of their support, but they are sometimes embarrassed to admit it," Opondo stated.
His remarks have sparked debate within the ruling party, as they contradict recent claims that NRM membership has grown significantly.
The party had announced an increase in registered members from 18.3 million to 20.7 million, signaling continued dominance.
Opondo’s comments highlight internal concerns over low voter turnout and the party’s perceived declining popularity, raising questions about NRM's future political strategy as Uganda heads toward the next election cycle.
