Surviving Assassins and Breaking Barriers; How Rebecca Kadaga Became Uganda's Most Fearless Leader

Rebecca Kadaga escaped death when hired killers abandoned their mission after receiving UGX 15 million advance payment. The would-be assassins later revealed they couldn't harm her due to deep respect for her leadership.

"My life has been threatened many times, but I remain committed to serving Uganda," Kadaga told Parliament during a heated session. Her declaration came moments after security reports exposed the assassination plot.

She rose from a small village in Mbulamuti, Kamuli District, to become Uganda's first female Speaker of Parliament. Her journey started in 1989 when she first won her parliamentary seat.

The law graduate from Makerere University climbed through various political ranks with determination. She served as Deputy Speaker from 2001 to 2011 before making history as Speaker.

Kadaga earned the nickname "Mama Kadaga" through her fierce protection of women's rights in Parliament. Her advocacy helped pass several laws protecting women in workplaces across Uganda.

The political powerhouse now serves as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs. These appointments came after her ten-year tenure as Speaker ended in 2021.

Her influence in the Busoga Kingdom brought stability during a leadership crisis. The region found its rightful king through her diplomatic interventions and guidance.

Parliament witnessed her boldest moves when she challenged executive decisions despite party loyalty. She maintained Parliament's independence while serving in the ruling National Resistance Movement.

Her constituents in Kamuli have never failed to re-elect her since she first contested. Local development projects and personal connections with voters strengthen her political base every election.

The seasoned politician continues to shape national policies from her current position. Her work focuses on regional integration and economic development across East Africa.
