Uganda Takes the Helm as Co-Chair of Global Climate Finance Coalition

Uganda has assumed co-chairmanship of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action at the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC.
The country will share the leadership mantle with the Netherlands, taking over from Indonesia’s finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi said Uganda’s focus during its tenure will be on climate adaptation, highlighting its critical role in building resilience and unlocking economic opportunities.
“Uganda aims to integrate climate goals into fiscal policy, budgeting, planning, and debt management,” Musasizi said.
He emphasized that Uganda is committed to mobilizing both public and private resources to support climate action.
“As co-chair, Uganda will work closely with the coalition’s 98 member countries and institutional partners, including the World Bank and IMF,” he added.
Musasizi noted that this collaboration will allow Uganda to leverage global expertise, resources, and knowledge to drive both climate and economic goals.
Uganda’s co-chairmanship marks a significant opportunity to influence global climate finance policy and promote sustainable development.
By partnering with other member states and international institutions, Uganda is poised to help shape transformative policies that advance climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.
