Sheikh Gugumiza Sworn In as New Kayunga District Kadhi

Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Gugumiza has been officially sworn in as the new Kadhi of Kayunga Muslim District during a ceremony held at the District Main Mosque.
The oath of office was administered by Haj Yunus Kamya, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Electoral Commission Regional Commissioner, in a ceremony presided over by Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti of Uganda, who previously served as Kayunga District Kadhi.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including Sulaiman Madada, a former minister and member of the UMSC General Assembly, as well as representatives from the Regional Assistant to the Mufti’s office, Kadhis from neighboring districts, county sheikhs, imams, and local government leaders.
In his farewell address, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya thanked the Muslims of Kayunga for their unity and support, attributing the construction of over 222 mosques since the district’s creation to their collective effort.
He urged imams to remain committed to the district’s monthly Shs 10,000 contribution policy, highlighting it as a critical source of funding for Islamic activities.
Dr. Bukenya also called for continued unity under the UMSC, urging Muslims to disregard individuals promoting division.
He further thanked His Eminence the Mufti, Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, for his leadership, and President Museveni for supporting constitutional amendments aimed at strengthening Muslim leadership structures nationwide.
Sheikh Imran Ssali, the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs, praised Dr. Bukenya for elevating the status of Kayunga Muslim District in a short time.
He encouraged Muslims to support Sheikh Gugumiza and cautioned against divisive tendencies, emphasizing the need for constructive engagement over criticism.
In his advice to the new Kadhi, Sheikh Ssali urged Sheikh Gugumiza to serve all Muslims equally and maintain religious neutrality, particularly as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.
Sheikh Gugumiza takes over leadership at a time when unity and consolidation of recent achievements remain top priorities for the Muslim community in Kayunga.
