Museveni Commissions Rwenzori Industrial Hub

President Museveni has officially commissioned the Rwenzori Presidential Initiative Industrial Hub located in Mubuku, Kasese District.
The state-of-the-art facility is part of a nationwide strategy to equip Ugandan youth with practical vocational skills, complementing the country’s formal education system.
Speaking during the launch, Museveni urged local leaders, parents, and communities to support and embrace the government's policy of free education.
He emphasized that while formal education remains essential, facilities like the industrial hub provide a much-needed bridge to employment by offering hands-on skills training.
“This industrial hub is a strategic tool to fight poverty and unemployment. It is not separate from our formal education but a complement. Let our young people come, learn a skill, and become economically productive,” the president said.
The Rwenzori Industrial Hub is part of the broader Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Girl and Boy Child, targeting out-of-school youth and school leavers.
It offers training in carpentry, tailoring, welding, baking, hairdressing, and other trades essential for community transformation and economic development.
Local leaders, including Kasese District chairperson Eriphazi Muhindi, pledged to mobilize youth to take full advantage of the facility, described the hub as a timely intervention in addressing youth unemployment in the region.
“We are grateful for this investment. It is going to change lives, reduce crime, and foster entrepreneurship among our young people,” Muhindi stated.
President Museveni also used the occasion to re-emphasize the importance of mindset change, urging youth to value vocational work and utilize the skills they acquire to create jobs and wealth for themselves and their communities.
The Rwenzori Industrial Hub joins other regional hubs across the country under the Presidential Initiative, reinforcing the government’s vision of a skilled, self-reliant, and industrious population.
