High Hopes for Kitagwenda Ahead of Museveni Visit

Residents of Kitagwenda District are brimming with anticipation as they prepare to welcome President Museveni on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The president will be concluding his Parish Development Model (PDM) performance assessment tour with a grand rally at Kicwamba Primary School Playground, marking his first official visit to the district since its creation in 2019.
According to a program the president is expected to begin his engagements in the Tooro sub-region on Thursday, May 15, with key activities in Kyenjojo District.
These will include an inspection of the Presidential Skilling Hub in Kyenjojo Town, before proceeding to Kitagwenda.
Kitagwenda leaders and residents are viewing the upcoming visit as a rare opportunity to directly present their long-standing concerns to the Head of State, ranging from poor road infrastructure and inadequate health services to issues of corruption.
Patrick Turyamureeba, the Chairperson of Kitagwenda Town Council, described the president’s visit as timely and crucial.
“This is the right time for the people of Kitagwenda to tell the president about their long-awaited demands, especially the Ntara-Kikazi circular road. Shs 300 million was allocated for its tarmacking, but the funds were mismanaged by some district officials,” he said.
Turyamureeba also emphasized the need to remind the president of past pledges.
“We need to bring to his attention his promise to tarmac the Ibanda–Kabujogera–Rubirizi road, which is critical for the economic growth of our district.”
Kitagwenda Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Nicholas Nuwagira, called on residents to turn up in large numbers to receive the president.
“This visit is historic. It is the first time President Museveni is visiting Kitagwenda since it became a district in 2019. I urge all residents to come and give him a warm welcome,” he said.
Many residents believe the president’s visit will offer them a platform to voice their challenges and highlight areas that need urgent government intervention.
As the date draws near, excitement continues to build in Kitagwenda, with hopes high that the president’s visit will usher in renewed focus on inclusive rural development and service delivery.
