Bomb threat at Pastor Bugembe's church

Security was heightened last night and this Sunday morning at Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s Worship House Church in Nansana, Wakiso District, due to a suspected bomb threat.

The police bomb squad backed by the military cordoned off the church in search of suspected explosives.

Major Charles Kabona, spokesperson for the UPDF First Infantry Division, reported that the threat was received on Saturday evening, prompting an immediate response.

Security teams worked throughout the night but found no explosives.

The situation was managed effectively, ensuring that normalcy was restored by morning.

Alex Ndugga, a minister at the church, expressed gratitude for the swift response of the security teams, noting that all activities were halted to conduct thorough investigations, which included the use of sniffer dogs.

By the next morning, he said, the security teams had concluded their investigations, allowing the church service to proceed as planned.

"The bomb threat came up at about 8 pm last night; that is when the security was called in. They entered the church and stopped all the activities. They brought in the sniffer dogs and examined everything and by this morning they were done,” he said

This incident is part of a series of heightened security measures across Uganda, particularly in Kampala, due to recent terror threats and attacks.

The Uganda Police Force has been actively countering potential terrorist activities, following multiple bombings in Kampala attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group aligned with the Islamic State.
