FDC Adjusts Electoral Roadmap Ahead of 2026 General Elections

As Uganda heads towards the 2026 general elections, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Electoral Commission has revised its electoral roadmap to provide room for party leaders, Members of Parliament, and other National Executive Committee (NEC) leaders to support youth, elders, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) during the nomination process.
The nomination window for these special interest groups remains open until June 10, 2025.
According to the adjusted roadmap, the picking of nomination forms, which began earlier, will continue until June 11, 2025, nominations for councillors and sub-county chairpersons will take place on June 12 and 13.
This will be followed by the nomination of Members of Parliament, LCV chairpersons, and municipal mayors on June 16 and 17.
The roadmap further outlines that consensus-building and the vetting process will occur between June 18 and July 1, 2025, while party primaries are scheduled to take place from July 2 to July 12, 2025.
Speaking to the media at the FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, the FDC Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mr. Boniface Toterebuka, says that the nomination process has been decentralised.
This approach, he says, allows candidates to pick and submit nomination forms at district level offices, thereby minimising financial strain and encouraging broader participation.
Toterebuka also confirmed that the party has successfully nominated two presidential candidates for the 2025/2026 race: Hon. Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Nathan Nandala Mafabi.
Both candidates have already embarked on their campaigns to garner support. The party’s presidential flag bearer will be elected at the Delegates Conference slated for July 31, 2025.
In addition, Toterebuka revealed the official nomination fees set by the party where Members of Parliament are required to pay Shs 100,000, district and city chairpersons Shs 50,000, and sub-county chairpersons as well as municipal and division mayors Shs 20,000 and no nomination fees will be charged for councillors contesting from the district to lower council levels.
He also expressed concerns over the Electoral Commission’s failure to provide the FDC with a copy of the Special Interest Group Register, noting that the delay undermines the proper registration of special interest candidates and urged the Electoral Commission to urgently address the matter.
