The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in partnership with MultiChoice Uganda, has officially launched a nationwide Digital Skilling Programme for Government Communication Officers and unveiled Season 4 of the Ugandan Podcast—both initiatives marking a major milestone in Uganda’s digital transformation journey.

Rooted in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year between the Ministry and MultiChoice Africa Holdings, the two-pronged program seeks to enhance Uganda’s broadcasting ecosystem through capacity building, local content innovation, and the protection of intellectual property.

The Digital Skilling Programme will be hosted at the National ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa, targeting 200 communication officers from ministries, departments, and government agencies.

The training will take place in two cohorts: July 7–8 for the first batch and July 9–10 for the second.

Participants will undergo intensive, hands-on sessions in digital content creation, storytelling, video production, social media strategy, and other critical skills necessary for effective government communication in the digital age.

Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, underscored the significance of this initiative at the launch.

“This initiative underscores Uganda’s commitment to building a digitally literate communication workforce. By equipping our officers with modern skills, we are enhancing transparency and strengthening public trust,” she said.

Echoing this vision, Hassan Saleh, managing director of MultiChoice Uganda, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to delivering on the MoU’s objectives.

“This partnership is geared towards enhancing digitalisation, strengthening Uganda’s local content ecosystem, protecting creators’ rights, and building future-ready talent,” he said. “It is a testament to what public-private collaboration can achieve for national development.”

Alongside the skilling program, Season 4 of the Ugandan Podcast was also launched, supported by MultiChoice Uganda.

The podcast continues to provide a vibrant platform for national dialogue on priority issues such as anti-piracy enforcement, content entrepreneurship, innovation, and the impact of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR).

The podcast aims to highlight the voices of content creators, innovators, and policymakers navigating Uganda’s evolving media and tech space.

Both initiatives are part of the ongoing implementation of the strategic MoU, which envisions Uganda as a digitally inclusive, skilled, and content-driven society.

As the country intensifies efforts to transform its digital landscape, this collaboration between the government and MultiChoice Uganda serves as a model for effective public-private partnerships—driving innovation, bridging skills gaps, and promoting homegrown content in a fast-evolving global digital economy.
