Hawker Shot During Nairobi Protests Remains on Life Support

Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, a 22-year-old hawker, is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in the head by anti-riot police amid violent protests along Moi Avenue in Nairobi.
The incident unfolded during demonstrations that saw security forces crack down on protesters in the city center.
Mwangi’s family revealed on Monday that he remains in critical condition, fully dependent on life support.
Speaking to journalists after a briefing from medical staff, family spokesperson Emily Wanjira gave a somber update on his status.
“To be sincere, he can’t survive without life support,” Wanjira said emotionally. “He cannot talk, he cannot see us.”
Alongside the emotional turmoil, the family faces an escalating medical bill now totaling Kshs2.3 million. They are appealing to well-wishers, human rights organizations, and the broader public for assistance to cover the mounting costs of his care.
Mwangi’s plight has ignited widespread public outrage on social media, with many Kenyans demanding justice and accountability from the police in relation to the handling of the protests.
So far, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the shooting or the ongoing investigations.
