The government of Uganda has officially wrapped up National Science Week 2025 with a press conference celebrating its resounding success and outlining ambitious plans to advance the nation’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) agenda.

With over 3,000 students and 200 innovators showcasing products, and more than 70 investors and venture capitalists engaging in the forums, this year’s event marked a milestone in Uganda’s journey toward transforming science into economic opportunity.

Special appreciation was extended to both local and international participants, whose presence and contributions elevated the event’s impact.

The minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Monica Musenero opened the press conference with heartfelt thanks to all Ugandans and international guests who participated in the week’s events.

She continued with gratitude to exhibitors from across the country, schools, and the Ministry of Education for mobilising student participation. Special thanks were extended to international delegates who traveled from around the globe to attend.

The theme of this year’s event, “From Innovation to Market: Building a New Uganda,” was at the heart of discussions throughout the week. Musenero highlighted that the focus was on translating science and innovation into market ready products, aiming to turn STI into a cornerstone of economic development through employment creation, enhanced exports, reduced imports, and expanded investment.

A major highlight was the inaugural Policy Day, during which scientists held direct conversations with policymakers, including the Minister of Finance, to bridge the gap between research and government decision-making.

Discussions centered on the transformative potential of the “Made in Uganda” platform both its physical presence in supermarkets and plans for an online marketplace which received overwhelmingly positive public response.

The Investor Forum was another key feature, attracting over 70 investors and venture capitalists. This dynamic engagement has already led to several investment deals, and organizers expect many more by the next Science Week in 2026.

She offered special commendation to the behind the scenes STI staff and applauded the commitment and creativity of innovators who designed and exhibited their work.

“The Ugandan ecosystem comprising innovators, investors, traders, and regulators is ready for the market,” Musenero affirmed, stressing the need for increased government funding and investor partnerships to scale up success stories.

A powerful call was made to the media and all stakeholders to continue their positive and collaborative efforts. “We must work hand-in-hand with our youth, the Ministers of Education and Trade, and our entire innovation ecosystem. Together, we can build the best Uganda possible,” she concluded.
