Winnie Kiiza Trains Aspiring Women Leaders on Campaign Strategy and Resilience

Former Leader of THE Opposition and veteran advocate for women’s rights, Winnie Kiiza on Tuesday led an intensive training session aimed at equipping aspiring women political candidates with practical skills in campaigning and leadership.
Organised by the Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), the session brought together a diverse group of women from across the country to focus on campaign strategy, team building, and navigating structural barriers to political participation.
“I shared practical insights on how to build effective teams, initiate strong campaigns, and address the systemic and cultural challenges that continue to limit women’s political participation,” Kiiza said.
Drawing from her own political journey, Kiiza underscored the need for resilience and strategic planning, urging the women to stay focused and courageous as they prepare for competitive electoral contests.
She also called on communities and institutions to back women’s political ambitions by creating inclusive, supportive environments.
Participants described the session as empowering and timely, especially as Uganda heads into another political season.
Several attendees said they left with renewed confidence and clearer direction for their campaign efforts.
FOWODE, a long-standing champion of women’s leadership in Uganda, said the training forms part of its ongoing effort to level the political playing field and amplify women’s voices in governance.
“We believe women’s leadership is central to democratic development, and we are committed to providing the tools and networks needed for women to succeed,” a FOWODE representative said.
As more women prepare to enter the political fray, Tuesday’s session reinforced the growing momentum behind gender-inclusive governance in Uganda.
