Dr.Charles Lagu: Former NAGRC Boss Unveils Agenda for Moyo West in 2026

Celecelea Stadium in Moyo Town Council turned into a sea of yellow as thousands of enthusiastic supporters gathered to witness former NAGRC&DB Executive Director Dr. Charles Lagu officially launch his 33-point campaign manifesto for the Moyo West County parliamentary seat.
The event, marked by music, dance, and ululations from various communities, drew supporters from all corners of the constituency, signaling growing political momentum ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Dr. Lagu, a respected veterinarian and animal scientist is seeking the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag to unseat the incumbent MP, Tom Aleru Aza.
Addressing the cheering crowd, Dr. Lagu laid out his development blueprint, promising transformative programs across key sectors including infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
“This manifesto is about service delivery and improving the lives of ordinary people in Moyo West. Together, we can transform our constituency through mindset change, community empowerment, and practical programs that touch everyone,” Dr. Lagu declared, amid chants of support from the crowd.
Among his key pledges are the improvement of rural road networks, boosting agricultural productivity through farmer support programs, increasing access to quality education, and enhancing health service delivery at local health units.
Speaking at the event, Robert Drichi, the Coordinator of Dr. Lagu’s campaign team, described the rally as a “historic moment for Moyo West.”
“This is not just another campaign launch. This is a people-led movement for development and positive change. The overwhelming turnout here today shows that the people of Moyo West are ready for a new chapter of leadership,” Drichi said.
Drichi further emphasized the inclusiveness of Dr. Lagu’s campaign, stating that consultations with local leaders, youth, women groups, and farmers informed the 33-point agenda.
“Every point in this manifesto reflects the real needs of our people. From improving feeder roads, skilling youth, supporting farmers with improved breeds, to enhancing school infrastructure—this is leadership that listens,” Drichi added.
Several opinion leaders, elders, and youth representatives also took to the podium, pledging their support for Dr. Lagu and urging voters to rally behind him in the upcoming NRM primaries and the general elections.
The event marks a significant milestone in what political observers say is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested parliamentary races in Moyo District.
As the election season gathers pace, all eyes remain on how Dr. Lagu’s message of development and transformation will resonate with voters in the coming months.
