World Champion Jacob Kiplimo Ready for Valencia Road Race
Jacob Kiplimo, the reigning world cross country champion and holder of the 21km world record, is geared up for the upcoming 10 km Valencia Road race in Spain scheduled for January 14th, 2024. The talented Ugandan athlete, also a double Commonwealth Gold medalist, is expected to face tough competition from renowned athletes, including Rodriguw Kwizera (Burundi), Boniface Kibiwot, Philemon Kiplimo, Jacob Kosgei, and Bravin Kipkogei Kiptoo from Kenya.
Kiplimo, who achieved a personal best (PB) of 41 minutes and 5 seconds during the 15 kilometers Sevens Hills race in the Netherlands late last November, has been diligently preparing for the Valencia race. Under the guidance of his Ugandan coach, Peter Chelangat, Kiplimo has undergone intensive training in Kapchorwa in anticipation of this challenging event.
In an interview with Uganda Radio Network, Kiplimo expressed his readiness for the competition, considering it as a season opener and crucial preparation for the upcoming World Cross Country Championships. The soft-spoken athlete stated, “I feel prepared and am hoping for the best.”
Coach Peter Chelangat emphasized the thorough preparations leading up to this highly anticipated race. He highlighted the significance of this season’s first race, which will serve as a benchmark for evaluating Kiplimo’s fitness level. Chelangat stated confidently, “We have done our part, and the rest is in God’s hands.”
