Retired army officer Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande has started his campaign to become the next Member of Parliament for Lwemiyaga County. He wants to take the ruling NRM party ticket in the upcoming primaries on July 17. Rwashande promised to stop the long rule of the current MP, Theodore Ssekikubo.

Rwashande met with NRM members in different parts of Lwemiyaga, including Kyeera and Bulongo, to share his plans. People in these areas said they feel forgotten by their leaders. They are unhappy because there is no government secondary school in the whole area.

This makes many children stop school after primary level and go to work on farms or take care of animals. The roads are in bad shape, health services are poor, clean water is hard to get, electricity is not steady, and many people have problems with land grabbing.

Rwashande said if he is elected, he will work hard to fix these problems. He promised to improve schools, health centers, roads, and protect people’s land. He said he will speak for the people in Parliament and make sure their needs are met.

At his campaign event, important people came to support him. One of them was Michael Nuwagira, the NRM’s PLU Chairperson, who said Rwashande is the right person to bring change to Lwemiyaga. Another retired army officer, Phinehas Katirima, spoke against the current leadership for not doing enough.

The people also asked for peaceful elections because past votes in Lwemiyaga have had violence. Rwashande said the army will keep peace during the election. He warned everyone not to fight or cause trouble with security forces.

The NRM party has allowed only two people to run for the party ticket in Lwemiyaga: the current MP, Theodore Ssekikubo, and Brig. Gen. Rwashande. The party told them not to do joint campaigns like some other NRM candidates have been asked to do.

There has been tension and arguments between the two groups recently. Now, all attention is on July 17, when voters in Lwemiyaga will choose who will represent the party in the 2026 general election
