The Uganda Police Force has confirmed a wave of violent incidents linked to the ongoing election season, particularly during the NRM party primaries. In a press release dated July 8, 2025, police revealed that violence involving political supporters has broken out in various districts, leading to injuries, destroyed property, and multiple arrests.

In Mubende District, chaos erupted on July 7 when two rival political camps met at Kyapa Kyeturege trading centre. The groups were supporters of Mr. Muhumuza Henry and Hon. Kabanda David, both contesting in the NRM primaries. A serious clash followed, involving gunfire and brutal attacks using sticks and bricks. One person, Gumisiriza Roger, was injured in the shootout. Later, more violence occurred at Nabingola Sub County headquarters, where two vehicles and a motorcycle were burned to ashes. Police quickly responded, helped stop the violence, and arrested three suspects. Injured victims were taken to Mubende Regional Hospital for treatment.

In Isingiro District, a similar case happened on July 5 in Kyempisi Cell, Kikagate Subcounty. Here, two motorcycles and one vehicle were set on fire. Police arrested ten suspects, but others escaped and are still being searched for. On July 7, a peace meeting was held with all involved parties and NRM officials to encourage calm and order during the election process.

Rubanda District also saw trouble on July 3. While Hon. Henry Musasizi was leaving a rally at Hakashanje Playground in Bushura Parish, stones were reportedly thrown at his convoy, damaging his car. Earlier that day, some of his campaign posters had been torn down. Police have arrested two suspects in connection with this incident.

In total, 16 suspects have been arrested across the three districts. The police report that some people have fled their homes to avoid arrest, but investigations and operations are still ongoing.

The Uganda Police Force strongly condemned these acts of violence and assured the public that those responsible will face justice. They called on all political actors and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and help ensure a safe and fair election process for everyone
