Nambooze Warns Against Fake Political Parties, Calls for Truthful Leadership

Hon. Betty Nambooze has raised concerns over the growing number of political parties in Uganda that she describes as “surrogate parties,” warning that many of them are not built on truth or genuine ideology.

Speaking during a political panel discussion, Nambooze said that some of these parties are created to serve hidden agendas rather than to represent the real interests of Ugandans. She noted that these parties often appear during election periods and then vanish soon after, leaving no meaningful impact.
“There are some surrogate political parties. These are not founded on truth, and such parties usually disappear into thin air,” she said.
Nambooze, a long-serving Member of Parliament and prominent opposition figure, emphasized the need for political honesty and consistency. She said Uganda needs parties that are rooted in strong values, serve the people faithfully, and have clear long-term visions for the country.
She also urged the public to be more careful when supporting political groups, encouraging voters to ask questions about a party’s history, leadership, and plans. “A serious party should not just come up for show. It should have structures, a committed membership, and a record of action,” she added.
Nambooze’s remarks come at a time when several small or newly rebranded parties are entering the political space ahead of the 2026 General Election. While some of these parties are pushing fresh ideas, others have been criticized for lacking real grassroots support or serious leadership.
She concluded by encouraging Ugandans to rally behind leaders and parties that stand for truth, transparency, and service, rather than those that are formed for short-term personal gain
