The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on all Ugandans—particularly political leaders—to embrace peace, unity, and tolerance during the upcoming the forthcoming elections.

He emphasised the need to reject violence, hostility, and divisive rhetoric as the country prepares for several key electoral contests.

Speaking during a press conference held at Namirembe cathedral Dr. Kaziimba underscored the Church’s commitment to promoting harmony and reconciliation across political and ethnic lines.

He was flanked by two former Prime Ministers of Uganda, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who chairs the organizing committee for an upcoming church event, and John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, serving as deputy chair. Both leaders, originally from the Kigezi sub-region, pledged their support for peaceful civic engagement.

“This is a time for our political leaders to let go of anger and bitterness, regardless of their affiliations. Uganda needs leaders who will lead with unity, humility, and integrity,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

He cautioned against any form of violence or provocation in the lead-up to the elections and called on citizens to prioritise national unity over partisan or ethnic interests.

“Let us not allow politics to divide us along tribal or religious lines,” the Archbishop urged. “Peace is essential—not only for development but also for our spiritual well-being.”

In the same address, Archbishop Kaziimba officially announced the 9th East African Revival Convention, set to take place from August 20th to 24th in the Diocese of Kigezi, marking a decade since the last such convention was held in the region.

The event, which celebrates the historic East African Revival movement, is expected to draw thousands of faithful from across Uganda and neighbouring countries. It will be led by Retired Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, a prominent figure in the East African Revival tradition.

“This year’s convention is not just a gathering—it is a spiritual milestone. It marks 10 years since the last event in Kabale, and we invite all believers to come together for renewal and healing,” said Archbishop Kaziimba.

He emphasised the transformative impact of the Gospel in Uganda, citing its role in healing both physical and moral ailments and challenging societal ills such as discrimination and marginalisation.

“The Revival movement has been a powerful force in shaping the moral fabric of our nation,” he noted. “This convention continues that legacy—calling us back to prayer, repentance, and unity.”

Dr. Kaziimba also used the occasion to invite all Ugandans—regardless of religious denomination—to pray for the nation, especially during this politically sensitive period. He stressed that true revival must begin in the hearts of individuals and extend to every sphere of society.

“Our hope is that the message of love, peace, and reconciliation will not only uplift the Church but also influence the political and social climate of Uganda,” he said.

Preparations for the Kabale convention are in full swing, with local leaders and church structures mobilizing communities across Kigezi and beyond. Organizers say the event will feature prayer sessions, worship, testimonies, and teachings aimed at reviving the Christian spirit across East Africa.
