Mayiga, UAE Minister Seek Stronger Trade and Investment Ties

Sharjah, UAE – The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has held talks with Sheikh Majid Faisal Al Qasimi, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Finance in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to strengthen trade and investment cooperation.
Sharjah, one of the seven emirates of the UAE, contributes about 12% of the country’s revenue and has established itself as a strategic hub for business in the Gulf.
Discussions focused on forging partnerships and drawing lessons from Sharjah’s rapid economic transformation over the past four decades.
“We value our friendship with Uganda, and we are committed to strengthening cooperation in trade, agriculture, and skills development,” Sheikh Al Qasimi said.
Sharjah has already invested in Uganda through projects such as the construction of Kidepo Airfield and the establishment of a vocational training institute in Busoga.
Katikkiro Mayiga welcomed these contributions, saying they provide important lessons for Uganda’s development.
“There is a lot we can learn from Sharjah’s success, and this knowledge should be shared to benefit the people of Buganda and Uganda as a whole,” he said.
The Katikkiro was accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE, Zaake Wannume Kibedi, and senior Buganda officials including Joseph Kawuki, Hajj Amisi Kakomo, Hajj Mutaasa Kafeero, businessman John Fred Kiyimba Freeman, Sheikh Abbas Nsubuga, and his deputy Umar Bakasambe.
The visit, part of Katikkiro Mayiga’s ongoing tour of the UAE, is expected to pave the way for deeper collaboration in investment, agriculture, tourism, and skills development.
