Peace Rugambwa Channels Over UGX 150 Million into Kabale as NRM Mobilisation Efforts Intensify
The mood in Kabale has been noticeably shifting in recent weeks, and much of that change is tied to the growing presence of Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, Peace Rugambwa. Her visits have been drawing crowds, not just because she arrives with support, but because she arrives with a message — that President Museveni wants the ordinary Ugandan empowered directly and without delay.
During her latest outreach, Rugambwa delivered over UGX 150 million to various community groups across Kabale Municipality. She explained that the President tasked her with reaching “the common person,” especially where government services may not always trickle down as intended. Residents say her hands-on approach has restored confidence in programmes meant to uplift low-income households.
Several organised groups benefited from the support, with funds deposited directly into their accounts or, for those still completing registration, delivered to kick-start their operations. The Owino Market Vendors received UGX 50 million, Boda Boda Riders UGX 20 million, Ghetto Youth UGX 15 million, Tomato Traders and Fresh Foods Traders each received UGX 10 million, while Matooke and Cassava Traders in Central Market also took UGX 10 million. Car Wash Operators were supported with UGX 5 million, and numerous other groups received smaller allocations that pushed the total past the 150-million-shilling mark.
Rugambwa’s work in Kabale has extended beyond traders. She has also been quietly reaching out to vulnerable families, donating mattresses, blankets, and other essential household items. For many, these gestures have become a reminder that government assistance can still reach the grassroots in a personal and meaningful way.
Alongside her developmental engagements, Rugambwa’s political influence continues to grow. Though she has not officially declared intentions to run for political office, she has become one of the most visible NRM mobilisers in the Ankole and Kigezi sub-regions. She has been rallying support for NRM candidates and championing President Museveni’s re-election message, often drawing large groups in local communities.
Her profile, however, has not come without scrutiny. Rugambwa’s Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group has in the past faced allegations of irregularities, attracting investigations and sparking political tension among some NRM leaders in the region. Despite this, her influence remains undiminished, and her grassroots engagements have continued to grow.
What is clear from her recent activities is that Rugambwa has positioned herself at the intersection of community empowerment and political mobilisation. Her continued interventions in Kabale suggest a figure whose relevance in the region — both administratively and politically — is only becoming stronger.
