Liverpool face a daunting trip to Inter Milan
As chaos and crisis reigns supreme on and off the field, Liverpool face a daunting trip to intimidating San Siro surroundings on Tuesday night, when they face Inter Milan in the Champions League league phase.
The 13th-placed Reds have claimed nine points from their opening five games of this season’s tournament, while the Nerazzurri suffered their first reverse on matchday five.
From the highs of victory over Real Madrid to the lows of a home humiliation at the hands of PSV Eindhoven, Liverpool fans have experienced all the emotions in this season’s Champions League.
Mohamed Salah dropped one of the biggest bombshells he could have possibly dropped, accusing Liverpool of throwing him under the bus and admitting that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot was now non-existent.
The Reds hierarchy have so far resisted calls to part ways with their under-fire manager, and if the powers-that-be take Slot’s side – as the status quo would suggest – we may very well be seeing the last of Salah in a Liverpool shirt.
Last season’s beaten finalists, Inter Milan, have also been dazzling domestically since being seen off by Atletico, winning three straight games across Serie A and the Coppa Italia by an aggregate score of 11-1, most recently crushing Como 4-0 on Saturday.
The Nerazzurri have won 10 of their last 11 Champions League group stage/league phase games in front of their own fans and ought to be firm favourites to make that 11 from 12 against Slot’s champions-in-crisis.
Any sense of stability is currently non-existent for Liverpool and Slot, and Reds fans will likely head to San Siro in fleeting hope rather than genuine expectation.
Barcelona play host to Eintracht Frankfurt
Champions League football returns to Camp Nou after over three years as Barcelona play host to Eintracht Frankfurt today, looking to respond after matchday five’s disappointing outing at Stamford Bridge.
Raphinha, Barcelona
Hansi Flick’s high line was exposed in that encounter as Barca fell 3-0 to Chelsea, while the same scoreline was seen in Frankfurt’s defeat to Atalanta.
Barcelona have won just one of their last four games in the Champions League (D1, L2), with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Olympiacos sandwiched between a 2-1 loss to holders Paris Saint-Germain and a 3-3 draw with Club Brugge, prior to that setback in London.
As a result, the Catalan giants, having managed just seven points from their opening five fixtures (W2, D1, L2), currently sit 18th in the 36-team table, which is unexpectedly low for a side that finished second in last season’s league phase.
The Blaugrana will now look to get their pursuit of an automatic qualification back on course and can be confident of taking maximum points today, buoyed by victories in each of their last three games.
Barca’s free-flowing attack will sense an opportunity against a porous Frankfurt defence that has conceded 13 across their last four outings.
History offers a glimmer of hope, however, with Frankfurt unbeaten in their only two previous meetings with Barcelona, having played out a 1-1 draw at home before emerging 3-2 winners in the reverse fixture of that quarter-final tie in the 2021-22 Europa League season.

Chelsea travel away to face Atalanta
Boasting identical records after five matchdays of the 2025-26 Champions League, Atalanta and Chelsea scrap it out in today’s intriguing league-phase contest in Bergamo.
Both teams have collected 10 points from 15 on offer, although the Premier League side sit three places better off, courtesy of a superior goal difference.
Willian Estevao, Chelsea
The Blues’ seventh-placed ranking would suffice for direct entry into the last 16 without the need for a two-legged playoff; while that outcome is not yet guaranteed, the visitors will head to Bergamo with fond memories of Italian showdowns.
Indeed, Chelsea have won their last three European games against Serie A sides while keeping a clean sheet every time, but since tearing Barcelona to shreds in the English capital, the Conference League holders have hit a painful plateau.
Maresca’s men have only claimed two points from three Premier League games, a miserable run that includes a 3-1 loss to Leeds United and a forgettable goalless draw with Bournemouth at the weekend.
As is the case with their visitors, though, Atalanta also go into matchday six on the back of a domestic setback, as their three-game winning run across all competitions came to an end in a shock 3-1 Serie A loss to Hellas Verona on Saturday.
Currently missing the influential Moises Caicedo in the Premier League due to suspension, Chelsea will have the Ecuadorian midfielder back available for the meeting with Atalanta.

Bayern to bounce back to winning ways as they host Sporting
After seeing an end to their perfect start in the Champions League campaign, Bayern Munich look to bounce back to winning ways as they welcome Sporting Lisbon to Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
Harry Kane, Bayern Munich
The Bavarians suffered a 3-1 defeat on their trip to the Emirates Stadium on matchday five, while Sporting Lisbon dispersed Club Brugge 3-0 at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
That loss at the Emirates stands as the only blemish on an otherwise stellar unbeaten competitive season for Vincent Kompany’s side, who have won 20 of their 22 games (D1, L1) in 2025-26, including the most recent three with 11 scored in that sequence.
The Bavarians put five past hosts Stuttgart without reply at the weekend, courtesy of a Konrad Laimer early opener and a Josip Stanisic finish slotted between Harry Kane’s hat-trick off the bench, leaving Bayern eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
A poor away record against German opposition does not make the challenge any better for Sporting, who have lost 14 of 17 such outings (D2, W1), the most recent being a goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund in the knockout playoffs last season, which ensured their exit following a 3-0 aggregate loss.
Although Luiz Dias’s three-match ban for his red card in Bayern’s clash with PSG has been reduced, the Colombian will still miss this match to see his sanction through.
As a result, Serge Gnabry should start at left wing, while Michael Oliseh operates on the opposite flank, with both players providing support for the in-form Kane, who is expected to return to leading the line following an impactful performance off the bench.
