Nyafamba Barbra Marcy, a determined daughter of Katandi village in Kirewa sub-county, is among the contestants for the Woman Member of Parliament for Tororo District in the 2026 general elections under the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

Her story is one of grit, faith, and an unyielding commitment to uplift her community.

Born on 19th July 1989 to Majanga Omoli and Suzan Agunda, Nyafamba’s early life was marked by hardship.

She brewed malwa and worked as a housemaid to raise her school fees, yet her resilience carried her through Kirewa Primary School and Kirewa Secondary School, where she completed both O and A levels. Later, she joined Kyambogo University, earning a diploma in Computer Science.

Her leadership journey began early, serving as head girl in primary school, a role that planted the seeds of civic responsibility now ready to challenge the incumbent, Sarah Achieng Opendi whom she blames for poor service delivery to the common person.

Professionally, she worked as a supporting staff member at the Bank of Uganda, gaining exposure to national institutions while nurturing her dream of serving the people of Tororo.

Nyafamba describes herself as a social, truthful individual who loves dancing and making friends.

She is of Nyapolo ogule Clan in the royal family of Majanga.

Nyafamba likens her mission to biblical figures such as Moses, Abraham, and Jacob, saying she hears God’s call to liberate her people from “bondage of suffering.” If elected, she pledges to begin by refurbishing worship centers across her constituency and giving monthly tithes to at least three churches per sub-county.

For her, this is both an act of gratitude to God and a way to support the poor within the church.

Her manifesto extends beyond faith. Nyafamba vows to bring government programs to the deepest corners of Tororo, targeting youths, women, commercial cyclists, farmers, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

She emphasizes empowerment and inclusivity, promising to fix dilapidated schools and health facilities that have long hindered development in the district.

Nyafamba is also among those against the Alcohol Control Bill, 2023, introduced by Hon. Sarah Opendi. The bill sought to regulate the sale, purchase, and consumption of alcohol in Uganda, including limiting operating hours and premises.

Nyafamba believes such restrictions would negatively affect ordinary citizens and local livelihoods.

From brewing malwa to working at the Bank of Uganda, Nyafamba’s journey reflects resilience, humility, and determination.

Her candidacy under the UPC banner positions her as a fresh voice in Tororo politics, one who blends personal struggle, spiritual conviction, and a vision for community transformation.
