CAR Army Chief Says UPDF Support Helped Rebuild Military, Secure Elections

The Chief of General Staff of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA), Major General Zépherin Mamadou, has credited Uganda’s military support with strengthening FACA and enhancing security during the country’s recent elections.

Major General Mamadou made the remarks during a meeting with Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.

He said that under a bilateral military cooperation agreement, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has provided training at specialized, junior, and senior command levels, enabling FACA to address leadership gaps and rebuild operational capacity.

“The improved command and training structures have been instrumental in ensuring that our recent electoral process was conducted under improved security conditions,” Mamadou said.

He also conveyed messages from Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra and the Ministry of Defence, expressing appreciation to UPDF leadership for their continued support.

General Kainerugaba welcomed the delegation, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to regional and continental security.

He pledged that the UPDF would continue supporting FACA through capacity-building initiatives in line with Uganda’s pan-African security approach.

During his visit, Major General Mamadou is also expected to attend Uganda’s 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations, underscoring the growing defence cooperation between the two countries.
