Heads of State Leave Uganda After IGAD and NAM Meetings
A delegation of heads of state and their representatives were seen off at Entebbe International Airport following their participation in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Heads of State and Government meeting and the ongoing Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit.
The IGAD summit, hosted at State House Entebbe on Thursday, brought together leaders from the region to deliberate on matters of mutual interest and cooperation. Meanwhile, the NAM Summit, which commenced on January 15, 2024, will officially conclude on January 20 at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
Among the notable figures bidding farewell were Kenya President William Ruto, escorted by Foreign Affairs State Minister (Regional) John Mulimba. Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received a send-off from Defence Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, emphasizing the diplomatic ties between the nations.
Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh departed with a farewell from Defence State Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, marking the conclusion of their participation in the diplomatic discussions.
Namibia’s Vice President, Nangolo Mbumba, left the country on Friday evening, bidding adieu with the company of Kampala Affairs State Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye and Godfrey Kirumira, the Honorary Consul of Namibia to Uganda.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, engaged in a friendly chat with Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, before departing Entebbe airport, signifying the conclusion of his involvement in the NAM Summit on Friday.
Angola’s Foreign Minister Tete Antonio received a farewell from Ssempijja, encapsulating the diplomatic exchanges that took place during their stay.
