The retired seventh Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, has urged Ugandans to heal from the wounds of the recently concluded elections and to spread love among themselves in the interest of national unity.

Orombi made the call on Sunday while speaking at a memorial service for the late Eliasaph Sserwadda, the father of State House Investors Protection Unit head Col Edith Nakalema.

The service was held at Kanyeganyegye in Kashari South, Mbarara District.

“We have just concluded elections. Many are not happy, some are happy, and we pray that God’s love may bring us together. Let us not seek revenge. Let God heal our wounds,” Orombi said.

He said the memorial was a celebration of fruitfulness, noting that the values Sserwadda planted in his family were visible through the lives of his children.

“Today we celebrate fruitfulness. We have heard what Rev. Sserwadda left behind. He planted a seed of love among his children, and we are all sharing in that love through his children, including Col. Edith Nakalema and others,” Orombi said.

The retired Archbishop praised Col. Nakalema for what he described as her practical expression of love, which he said enables her to bring together people from diverse backgrounds, including political leaders, religious figures, senior military officers, and ministers.

“Edith Nakalema loves practically. She honours people, and she inherited this from her father. She is broad-minded, good-hearted, and a true Ugandan. She has the ability to bring together many high-profile people,” Orombi said.

He challenged Ugandans to become peacemakers in order to preserve the country for future generations.

“Uganda is here to stay, even after us. Let us plant a seed of love among ourselves and among the people of God. Let us be peacemakers. As far as it depends on you, live at peace with all people,” Orombi said.
