Kampala — The Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a man accused of forging an appointment letter purportedly signed by President Yoweri Museveni to secure the position of Managing Director of the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC).

According to a statement released by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the suspect, identified as Nicholas Arinda , was arraigned in court in a joint operation involving the Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Arinda faces charges of forgery, uttering a false document, and obtaining money by false pretence.

He was remanded until March 9, 2026, as investigations continue.

Prosecution alleges that Arinda, together with an accomplice who is still at large, fraudulently produced a false appointment letter dated December 4, 2024.

The letter, referenced PO/23, allegedly appointed Alfred Nagwomu as Managing Director of the Uganda Railways Corporation.

Authorities say the document falsely indicated that it had been signed by the President, which investigators later determined was not the case.

The accused is further alleged to have extorted over Shs20 million from Nagwomu, claiming the money would be used to facilitate the appointment process.

Anti-corruption officials say the case highlights the persistence of impersonation and appointment-related fraud schemes targeting individuals seeking public offices or government-linked positions.

Investigations are ongoing as security agencies search for the second suspect. If convicted, Arinda could face significant penalties under Uganda’s anti-fraud and forgery laws.
