The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kabale has granted bail to Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Western Uganda.

Tukamushaba, who contested for the Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament seat on the NUP ticket, was on February 6, 2026 charged and remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison over allegations of inciting violence. She was initially remanded until February 24, 2026.

According to prosecution, between December 2025 and January 2026, Tukamushaba allegedly incited members of the public to commit acts of violence in various parts of Western Uganda, including Rukiga, Kabale, and Rukungiri districts, contrary to Section 79(1) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.

Prosecution further alleged that she urged individuals to attack supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) on the basis of their political affiliation.

Tukamushaba pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The NUP leader was reportedly abducted on January 14, 2026, while distributing agents’ appointment letters and facilitation during the election period. She resurfaced three weeks later in custody and was presented before court.

On Thursday, through her lawyer Godwin Masereka, Tukamushaba applied for a production warrant and was produced before court. The defence presented four sureties: Leopold Twesigye, Emmanuel Turyasigura, Twesigye Luke, and Jiripina Kamusiime.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha granted Tukamushaba cash bail of UGX 1 million and bonded each of the four sureties at UGX 5 million non-cash.
