“I Don’t Know Who I Will Share My Experiences With Now” – Husband of Kiboga Shooting Victim Mourns at Burial
Grief engulfed mourners in Omunkole, Kamwezi Sub-county, in Rukiga District as Sarah Ayebare and her young child, Salson Niwagaba, were laid to rest following Monday’s deadly shooting at Kiboga Prison.
The shooting also claimed the lives of prison warders Hope Catherine and Bright Akishuri. Authorities say the suspect, Moses Anguyo, remains at large.
In an emotional eulogy, Sarah’s husband, SP Ivan Niwagaba, struggled to hold back tears as he spoke about the woman he described as his confidant and closest friend.
“I used to share everything with my wife. I grew up a quiet person, but Sarah taught me how to talk,” he said. “At home, we were always in conversation. I don’t know who I will share my experiences with now.”
His tribute moved many mourners, who listened in silence as he reflected on their marriage and the painful loss of both his wife and child.
Representing the Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons Service, Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons Robert Munanura asked the bereaved families for forgiveness.
“We ask you to pardon us for the tragic loss of your loved ones,” Munanura said, expressing regret that the deaths resulted from the reckless misuse of a firearm by one of their own officers.
Investigations into the Kiboga prison shooting are ongoing as security agencies continue the hunt for the suspect.
The burial ended in deep sorrow, with calls for justice and accountability.
