Senior Officials Arrested as Government Tightens Fight on Embezzlement
@IGGUganda has arrested six senior officials from Kabale District Local Government together with a contractor over alleged embezzlement of public funds. This bold action shows the institution’s growing determination to fight corruption and protect public resources meant to serve citizens.
The arrested officials include Mr. Benon Kahangi, the District Production Officer; Mr. Stephen Buregyeya, Senior Treasurer; Mr. Sixtus Ahabwe, Assistant Veterinary Officer; Mr. Owen Atuhaire, Assistant Inventory Management Officer; Ms. Pamela Musimenta, Assistant Agriculture Officer; and Mr. Kwizera Wilson, also an Assistant Agriculture Officer. The contractor arrested is Mr. Nicholas Karuhanga, Director of Hummer Consults Co. Ltd. Authorities believe the suspects were involved in the misuse of government funds meant for development and service delivery.
According to preliminary information, the arrests followed investigations into financial irregularities within the district. These investigations revealed possible abuse of office and poor handling of public money. Such actions have negatively affected essential services, especially in sectors like agriculture and production, which directly impact the livelihoods of local communities.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court, where they will answer charges related to corruption and embezzlement. The court process will determine their responsibility and decide the next course of action according to the law. This step sends a strong warning to other public servants who may be tempted to misuse public funds.
Many Ugandans have welcomed the arrests as a sign that accountability is finally being taken seriously. Civil society groups and citizens alike hope that this case will set an example and restore public trust in government institutions. They believe that fighting corruption is key to improving service delivery and national development.
As investigations continue, more details are expected to be released in the coming days. For now, the arrests stand as a clear signal that corruption will not be tolerated and that public officers must be ready to answer for their actions. The nation watches closely as justice takes its course
